Research Internships / Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. theses
We are constantly looking for curious, highly motivated, creative, and hard-working students with a background in chemistry and/or physics. Currently we offer research internships as well as Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. theses under the following topics:
(1) Synthesis and characterization of polynuclear molecular vanadium oxides for surface science.
(2) Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies of polynuclear molecular vanadium oxides on surfaces (in collaboration with the Forschungszentrum Jülich).
(3) Quantum mechanical calculations of molecular properties and numerical simulation of polynuclear molecular vanadium oxides.
In our laboratories we use different analytical techniques to characterize the synthesized molecules, including elemental and thermogravimetric analyses, routine IR, NMR, UV-Vis, and EPR spectroscopies, mass spectrometry, cyclic voltammetry, SQUID analysis, powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods, and infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy. We also conduct quantum mechanical calculations to gain a better understanding of the molecular geometries as well as the bonding, electronic, and magnetic properties of molecules (computational resources: Amsterdam Density Functional program (ADF) / Intel Machine, 3.1 GHz processor, 16 cores, 256 GB memory).
We encourage the most gifted students to apply to the DAAD, Fonds der Chemischen Industrie, Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, Deutsche Telekom Stiftung, Evonik Stiftung, Bayer-Stiftung, Evangelisches Studienwerk or Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung for a Ph.D. fellowship. If you are interested, please contact Kirill Monakhov.
There are currently no funded postdoctoral positions available. However, if you are interested in joining our group, please feel free to contact Kirill Monakhov. There are always possibilities to apply for a third-party funding (Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions, DAAD, etc).
How to apply?
Research internships / Bachelor and Master theses: send an overview of your grades to Kirill Monakhov.
